Background
In this series of blogs Michael Hoffmann, Senior Advisor to TelosNRG, will outline the evolving role of Environmental Social Governance (ESG) and how it impacts the oil and gas (O&G) sector. In doing this Michael provide some historical and practical context on the rise of ESG and its application, and underline its importance to small and medium size energy companies in particular.
This blog is written from a personal view, based on Michael’s career and experience in a variety of sustainability settings—from major international upstream and mid-stream O&G companies to NGOs and start-ups. This is not intended as an academic paper and does not represent the views of TelosNRG on any particular subject.
Over the next months, this blog series will address the following questions;
- What is ESG and why is relevant to business?
- Why is ESG receiving increasing attention from the investor community and the energy sector?
- What is ‘the cost of not’ when considering the implementation of ESG practices?
- What is the impact of an ESG programme on your company’s reputation and long-term licence to operate (LTO)?
- What ESG factors have the most influence on energy sector investments?
