Challenge
Our client – an independent operator with concessions in Africa, needed to update its Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) management system.
The update aimed, in particular, to reflect the revised business strategy (from traditional oil and gas to transitional gas, renewable power and green hydrogen) and stand-up to scrutiny by stakeholders.
Approach
Key members of staff were interviewed in order to gain a thorough understanding of current company activities, plans and aspirations as well as to understand how best to incorporate the associated requirements in the updates of the existing HSE MS.
Based on these discussions, Telos identified the changes required to update the management system and summarised them in a briefing note to agree the proposed approach before proceeding.
Solution
Telos updated the set of current policies and procedures, allowing a common structure suitable to all business streams.
Telos also widened the HSE scope to enable the management of social issues within the same framework, calling the resulting system an HSES management system.
In addition, Telos developed procedures on topics such as cultural heritage or land acquisition and involuntary resettlement in order to align the management system with IFC requirements.
Outcome
The HSES MS was rolled-out across the company in a number of sessions and Telos was further contracted to provide HSES advice and support implementation of the system within the company.
