Challenge
Our client is a London based energy company who are working with a number of other similar companies and the Oil and Gas Authority to establish a focus group to concentrate on the production and storage of hydrogen with carbon capture, utilising the existing Bacton gas terminals infrastructure. The ambition of this feasibility level project is towards maturing a prospect that could be taken forward by a consortium to create a Bacton energy hub as part of the energy transition and assisting the UK’s drive to Net Zero by 2050. The focus is around six selected Special Interest Groups (SIG), and Telos are assisting its client with its role within the SIG associated with Hydrogen supply.
Approach
Our assigned project lead is a senior member of the Telos team. An industry expert with over 30 years of experience in asset management, operations, maintenance and developments in the oil and gas and renewables industry.
Providing support and assistance for the client’s interests, as well as those of the wider project, we are assisting to identify and execute work streams that will lead to the technical and economic maturation of the Hydrogen Hub at Bacton.
Solution
Specific goals and objectives had been set by the OGA for this scoping study, and Telos suggested a structured approach, in the same fashion in which we would deliver a development project. This approach lends itself to the technical and collaborative requirements of such a scoping study. Providing structure, stakeholder management, managed communication, staged progress reviews, as well as the identification of risk and opportunity.
By bringing together a collaborative approach and the large pool of industry experience the full range of technical solutions can be assessed with respect to implementation into the existing infrastructure. Before exploring the possibilities of expansion and the advantages this could deliver.
Outcome
The project is ongoing and is likely to continue and potentially move forward to greater levels of detail and maturity.
We have many years of Southern North Sea gas basin experience within the Telos team, and with our involvement in this development we are able to share this knowledge for the potential benefit of the UK’s journey to Net Zero.
