Challenge
Our client was an independent UK based E&P operator who was preparing to move from concept select into the detailed design phase of the project life cycle.
The project had been matured over several years and there was a risk that readiness, including resource capacity, project governance, risk awareness and management strategy, and cost control was not adequate.
Approach
We assigned an integrated team combining experienced field development discipline experts to review necessary project documentation and conduct interviews with the clients own project team.
The review team included facilities, wells, subsea, project controls and project management experts.
A report was then developed and presented to the clients leadership team.
Solution
The client was provided with an independent assessment of readiness through a report and feedback meeting which detailed the status of the project, organisational competence and capacity, adequacy of governance systems to control risk, cost and schedule; along with recommendations to client leadership to remedy issues, as well as support decisions already made.
Further recommendations were made highlighting potential areas for concern and observation during the next project phase.
Outcome
Our client was able to confirm the extent of success in regards to the implementation of project strategies as well as prioritise and address deficiencies in the availability of resourcing, project governance and risk control measures.
The review was undertaken prior to commencement of the next project phase, which ultimately enabled the project to continue with a lower risk profile and more certainty of success than would have been possible without the review.
